East Residence Hall Update
On February 9, 2026, a burst sprinkler pipe on the 10th floor of East Residence Hall caused significant water damage, requiring temporary closure of the building to ensure the safety of our students and compliance with city and state inspection standards.
Since the incident, UMass Boston has been working closely with the property operator, Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), as well as city and state officials, to assess building systems, conduct remediation, and develop a safe and structured plan for re-occupancy.
This page serves as the central source of information regarding the East Residence Hall closure, including frequently asked questions, ongoing updates, and a complete archive of communications shared with students and the campus community.
We are committed to transparency and will continue updating this page as new information becomes available.
